Campsites in Provence

Provence is often considered to be France’s premier destination. Located in the south east coast of France, bordering Italy in the east and meeting with the Alps in the north, the region offers a remarkably diverse landscape. Exploring this part of France, including the French Riviera and unspoilt Provencal countryside is what summers are made for. Come with your family and go camping in Provence; on the coast, in the countryside or in the mountains. We offer one campsite in Provence, Camping Lacs du Verdon.

Why Go Camping in Provence?

French Riviera

The Mediterranean coast of France known as the French Riviera takes in some of the south of France’s most glamourous resorts including St. Tropez, Cannes, Nice and the principality of Monaco.  Away from the coast great towns like Grasse with its many perfumeries or Biot which is world famous for glass blowing can be found.

Provence Cuisine

Provence has long been known for its regional dishes all of which have a very strong Mediterranean influence. Many dishes served in Provence are specific to the region and include dishes like Bouillabaisse, a seafood stew made with up to six different types of local fish and shellfish seasoned with Provencal herbs. Other popular dishes associated with Provence are Salade Nicoise and Provencal Pizza.

Natural Attractions

Famous painters fell in love with the region of Provence for its natural beauty. Years later, the same breathtaking scenery keeps families coming back to Provence. Verdon Gorge is considered to be the most beautiful river gorge in Europe and attracts a huge number of tourists every summer. A favourite day trip with families is to Palud-Sur-Verdon, an attractive village with museum and vantage points with panoramic views of the gorge.

Summer Festivities

Provence is host to various festivities throughout the summer months. July sees the whole city of Avignon turn into a public stage for theatre, street performers and parades. The Lamb and Ram fair takes place in St. Christol early in August, creating a spectacle of hundreds of fluffy sheep and rams.

Getting to Provence

Getting to Provence is easy. The area is well connected to Ireland with Nice Airport serving as a main gateway.  There are also flights to Marseilles and Nimes.  However, self-drive via Roscoff or Cherbourg is a viable option with an overnight stop en route adding to the holiday experience.
