Why Go Camping near Barcelona

Beaches and Landscape

While camping sites in the city of Barcelona are limited,  the nearby coastal resorts and the lower reaches of the High Pyrenees provide great options for camping. To the south, the Costa Daurada has sandy beaches, perfect for relaxing and bathing, whilst to the north Costa Brava has a more rugged coastline of cliffs and pebble beaches. Away from the Mediterranean, the High Pyrenees Mountains are perfect for winter sports and adventure holidays.

Authentically Catalan

As part of the Catalania region, cuisine in and around Barcelona has its own distinctive flavours. Popular Catalan dishes include paella cooked with seafood and peas, aioli – a garlic puree that is served with bread and olives, and lots of fresh seafood. Dishes that are described as ‘Romesco’ are meat dishes cooked with almonds, tomatoes, garlic, vinegar and oil.

Activities

The city of Barcelona is packed with things to do for adults, for families and for children. The coastline in either direction offers a choice of beach activities and water sports. Taking the Harbour Cable Car from Barceloneta to Monjuic is a thrilling and affordable family activity as is the cable car ride through the tree tops to the old fort.  For evening entertainment, take in a flamenco show at one of the many family friendly bars along La Rambla.

Getting to Barcelona

Barcelona is one of the best connected cities in Spain. Daily flights arrive from across the UK, Ireland and Europe to Barcelona International Airport.  Alternative airports are Reus and Girona.  Affordable car hire makes fly-drive a great option.  The busy port has regular ferries leaving for the Spanish Islands, Morocco and France.
